Prosecutors Seek 23-Year Sentence For DVD Vending Business Opportunity Founder

Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to sentence the founder of American Entertainment Distributors Inc. to 23 years in prison for conspiracy, fraud and violating a court order banning him from selling business opportunities, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Russell MacArthur, 43, pleaded guilty to those charges in February.

The defense attorney had the gall to claim that the losses to investors have been exaggerated. The prosecutor had a tape recorded conversation in which the huckster acknowledged planning to close the operation when the complaints reached a certain level before moving on to another project.
